ImageWare to Provide Software to Identify Afghan Refugees Seeking Asylum in Australia and New Zealand
SAN DIEGO, CA, October 30, 2001 - ImageWare Systems, Inc. (AMEX:IW) today announced it was awarded a contract to provide proprietary software that will be used by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to create photo identification cards for refugees and migrants in the South Pacific. Installation is scheduled to be completed within the next 30 days. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Jim Miller, ImageWare chairman and chief executive officer, said, "The IOM has an immediate need to identify and process Afghan refugees currently on the Pacific island of Nauru and aboard Australian Navy ships who are seeking asylum in Australia and New Zealand. Our IDentifierTM for Windows® software produces tamper-resistant ID cards and creates a related database of text information on each cardholder. The software will allow IOM administrators to store and maintain accurate and up-to-date information on all the refugees stationed at Nauru processing centers during the course of their stay." The International Organization for Migration works with migrants and governments to provide humane responses to migration challenges. Established in 1951, the IOM has grown to encompass a variety of migration management activities around the world, working closely with bodies and agencies of the United Nations. It has offices and operations on every continent.
