Alliance to improve security of identification documents, protect citizens and strengthen homeland SAN DIEGO, CA, April 28, 2003 - ImageWare Systems, Inc. (AMEX: IW) today announced that the Company's Vice President of Business Development Lawrence J. Bujak has been appointed as the executive secretary of the Document Security Alliance (DSA). Founded in 2001, the DSA is an industry organization that unites leaders in law enforcement and technology to identify procedures that will help prevent the production of counterfeit identification documents such as driver licenses and passports, and track the origin of documents that are fraudulently produced. "The Secret Service has long understood the importance of building trusted relationships with other law enforcement agencies, the private sector and academia. We do so for one important reason-necessity," said U.S. Secret Service Director W. Ralph Basham. "The Document Security Alliance works by creating a partnership between law enforcement and private industry, a forum where the best minds can come together to discuss how best to improve security documents. Working together, we can draw upon our expertise and unique experiences to strengthen our homeland and protect our citizens." To date, the DSA boasts more than 80 member organizations including the U.S. Secret Service, Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Agency, Social Security Administration, U.S. Postal Service, State Department, Government Services Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, The White House, U.S. Treasury Department, Government Printing Operations, U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, Central Intelligence Agency and Immigration and Naturalization Services. "The quality of the counterfeit documents that law enforcement encounters is continually changing as counterfeiters adapt their products in response to emerging security technologies," said Bujak. "In order to remain ahead of this trend, credentialing industry solution providers have partnered with the United States Secret Service to form the DSA; our goals are continually aimed at improving security documents and security related procedures." "One of the biggest security challenges we face is the ability to source breeder documents-those initial counterfeit driver licenses or other forms of identification that enable an individual to then obtain a visa or a passport and travel unnoticed and without restriction," commented Jim Miller, ImageWare's chairman and CEO. "As a member of the security technology industry, we have a duty to seek new avenues that protect the integrity of identification documents and trace the origination of documents that are illegally created. It is only then that we can truly enhance security not only in the U.S., but globally."
