SAN DIEGO, CA, September 24, 2003 - ImageWare Systems, Inc. (AMEX: IW) today announced that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) has enhanced its investigative capabilities by expanding its browser-based investigative application to broaden the searching capabilities and enable the creation of mug books via the law enforcement Intranet. This expansion will allow Countywide law enforcement agencies, such as the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the ability to tap into the central Crime Capture System (CCS) via the Intranet and easily search CCS data and image fields in real-time, quickly retrieve matching records, and seamlessly create photo lineups and mug books to facilitate the investigative process. ImageWare’s CCS is a digital imaging, investigative and identification solution that enables officers to capture, store and retrieve mug shots and related booking information. “ImageWare’s Web-enabled and wireless investigative solutions have given real-time access to booking photographs and associated booking information,” said Thomas J. Smith of the LASD. “This has been key to providing access to booking photographs in the field. This enhancement is tailored more for the detectives who need to do a more in-depth search against the County’s mugshot database.” The LASD has been using ImageWare’s law enforcement investigative solutions since 2000. The Department is also equipped with ImageWare’s facial recognition module that employs biometrics to identify a suspect by measuring a suspect’s distinctive facial characteristics. “The ability to search, retrieve, and create mug books and photo lineups in the field is imperative in the law enforcement community, specifically for conducting comprehensive investigations,” said Lori Rodriguez, president of ImageWare’s Law Enforcement Division. “Los Angeles and Orange County now have the capacity to ensure that mission critical information gets into the hands of officers when and where they need it most.”
