SAN DIEGO, CA, August 24, 1999 - ImageWare Systems, Inc. (AMEX:IW) has been awarded a contract to supply a central photo imaging server with Investigative Search and Facial Recognition client software to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The capabilities will include a secure Internet browser for investigative searches. ImageWare’s Crime Capture System® (CCS) server will initially be accessible by Investigative clients at "Local Input Terminal" sites throughout Los Angeles County. Combining fully integrated livescan and mugshot capture systems from Digital Biometrics Inc. (DBI) with ImageWare’s server and investigative software creates a powerful tool for Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) investigators in gaining access to data and mugshots not previously available. To help the County identify more criminals, ImageWare will also install Face ID® facial recognition software on the server and provide additional sites with Face ID client software. The initial deployment is expected to grow tremendously as investigators discover how their jobs can be accomplished much more effectively using the new software. In addition, the contract includes ImageWare’s new Crime WebTM application that allows both Los Angeles and Orange County to search the LASD photo database via the Internet. "This new mugshot server and the ImageWare applications will provide each law enforcement agency in the County access to a powerful, flexible, state-of-the-art tool to enhance criminal identifications, investigations and prosecutions," comments Lieutenant Greg Morgon, of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Records and Identification Bureau. "In addition to the benefits for the citizens of Los Angeles County, this cooperative venture by DBI and ImageWare will also enhance the exchange of information with law enforcement agencies throughout the State with access to our database of high quality digital mugshots." In addition, using the CCS system, LASD will be contributing to the state of California Cal-PhotoID and Cal-Gang projects. The CCS database will also interface with LASD’s new CCHRS database, which will allow photos to be viewed directly from the CCHRS application.
