SAN DIEGO, CA, June 6, 2005 - ImageWare® Systems, Inc. (AMEX: IW), a world leading developer and provider of identity management solutions, has been selected by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department CAL-ID Bureau to expand its existing IWS Law Enforcement solution by integrating a central NIST-compliant identification repository, enabling the sharing of all photo images and data from San Bernardino and Riverside counties. This allows for the flow of images and data into one repository for more streamlined access as well as rapid and reliable identification of both suspects and known criminals. Under the terms of the deal, ImageWare will enable law enforcement organizations in both San Bernardino and Riverside counties to match images and data from the county and state databases to fingerprints taken in the field. "Serving the largest county in the United States, we are constantly looking for technologies that will help our law enforcement officers in doing their jobs more effectively,” said Lieutenant Jeff Rose, project manager, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department CAL-ID bureau. “Our primary goal is to provide a greater level of safety to the San Bernardino and Riverside communities and with the expansion of ImageWare’s technology, we will be well prepared to verify a person's identity more efficiently and accurately." “This latest project continues to support our position as the preferred provider of identity management solutions for the law enforcement community,” said Jim Miller, CEO, ImageWare Systems. “We’re certain our solutions will effectively meet the needs of the San Bernardino and Riverside CAL-ID program, delivering fast and reliable search and confirmation of images and data.” California's CAL-ID program seeks to provide biometric identification services and technologies to all 58 counties in California. Law enforcement agencies electronically forward fingerprint files to the state's fingerprint repository in Sacramento, which transmits the files through the CJIS WAN to the FBI. California maintains fingerprint files on almost 15 million individuals. IWS Law Enforcement is a complete digital booking, identification and investigative solution, enabling officers to capture, store and search booking data and images including mug shots, fingerprints, and scars, marks and tattoos (SMTs). IWS Law Enforcement solution also employs facial recognition technology to take an image or digital composite and search mug shot databases for potential matches based on similarities in facial characteristics and also integrates seamlessly with existing FBI, DMV, RMS, JMS, AFIS or other systems to capture live, scanned or imported images, as well as arrest and demographic data.
