ImageWare Adds Recognized Expert in Electronic Card Processing Systems to Its Management Team

SAN DIEGO, CA, October 21, 2002 - ImageWare Systems, Inc. (AMEX: IW) today announced that Joseph Schuler has joined the company as president, ImageWare ID Systems Group. In this new role, Schuler will spearhead the global sales, marketing and product development of ImageWare's ID solutions.

Schuler brings to ImageWare decades of experience in virtually every aspect of electronic card processing including: marketing, systems integration, manufacturing, applications development and the implementation of high security smart card and biometric ID solutions. He was a U.S. delegate to the international standards effort on smart card technology and currently sits on the advisory board of BIO-key International, a fingerprint biometric identification company.

To allow for added focus on each of the company's market segments, ImageWare has modified its organizational structure from an Americas Group and International Group to worldwide divisions-one for ID Systems and one for Law Enforcement Systems. Schuler's position as president, ImageWare ID Systems Group was created by consolidating functions previously directed by Ian Fraser, president of the International Group, who is retiring this year, and Lori Rodriguez, president of the Americas, who has assumed the role of president, ImageWare Law Enforcement Systems Group.

"Joe is a savvy executive whose industry insight and experience, paired with his proven track record of strategic leadership and systems excellence, made him the natural choice to take ImageWare's ID Systems Group to the next level," said Jim Miller, ImageWare's chairman and CEO.

Schuler joins ImageWare from Fargo Electronics where he directed the strategic vision for the company's smart card encoding systems and managed the Fargo Technology Alliance. Prior to Fargo, Schuler held a number of executive-level positions at Schlumberger, Gemplus and Visa International where he specialized in the advancement of smart card technologies.

Schuler is co-author of THE ADVANCED CARD REPORT: Smart Card Primer and has been quoted in numerous publications including The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Times, Forbes, ID Systems, The Nilson Report and Credit Card Management. He has also been an expert commentator on CNN and other network news programs.
