ImageWare Strengthens Multi-Biometric ID System for Mexican Government

By Stefania Viscusi
December 6, 2006

For the government of Mexico, biometrics play an important in the management and protection of their people.

In a bid to further strengthen the multi-biometric identification system already in place since 2004, Mexico Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Secretaria de Relaciones Extreiores (SRE) has signed a contract with Imageware.

Valued at approximately $288,000, the contract will provide enhancements to the SIRLI (System for the Identification of Remains and Localization of Individuals) system including expansion and greater usability.

By strengthening the system and the identity management capabilities, Mexican consulates in the US and offices of foreign affairs in Mexico are provided with population management, search and demographic information for enhanced identification capabilities.

The mutli-biometrics offered by ImageWare combines facial, fingerprint, signature and DNA biometrics all in one system. IWS™ Biometric Engine® and Investigative platforms for identity management allow for investigating and searching information in different systems to better identify individuals and eliminate duplicate enrollments.

"We are very proud of the SIRLI system and with its growing success, ImageWare's biometric identity management and investigative capabilities are meeting the imperatives of the Mexican Government," Jim Miller, ImageWare's chairman and CEO commented in a statement.

The company made news earlier this year when they received an order valued at around $275,000 from GE Security for their identity management suite including the IWS™ Biometric Engine® and IWS Card Management System for an undisclosed project.
